To say a lot has happened in 2020 still feels like the biggest understatement of the century. With Covid-19 rattling bones and changing the face of the earth, it was bound to be a rollercoaster of emotions for everyone. It has affected many people in different ways, some are positive and some are negative, but I do believe everyone has taken their own vision and experience of the uncertain times we have faced.
I spent the best part of a year rediscovering who I am and what I want from life, using the lockdown as a form of self ‘Therapy’ and reflection (Yes, that is a shameless plug of the bands debut album - go listen now) … Being cut off from the world really made me appreciate the little things we all take for granted now and then. Family, friends, human interaction, our talents…. A simple pint in the pub! I managed to finally break through the dreaded writers block syndrome, which was tormenting me for months. Took a breath of fresh air each time I left the house. Designed a few new colourful items of clothing. Painted some pictures that some would call art… but still something was missing.
The music industry has been my life and soul since I was a toddler. Following in the footsteps of my parents, it became my obsession. Loosing the ability to perform live, mingle with fellow artists and record was something that hit every musician with a bang, myself and Chris being no different. Our music careers in Ireland were feeling the sting and stress from the lockdown we had to endure, and our future was seriously unclear.
Over the sea, change was also unraveling due to the rocky year of uncertainty. Tomorrow is Lost was a band I had on my radar for the last two years. With only a few pleasant in person encounters with the band members of TIL, but an array of online media focusing in on their talent, along with the amazing following of the ‘SHADOWGANG’ fanbase, they where hard to miss! With October came the unfortunate news of their singer and guitarist leaving after a stretch of 3 years. Definitely a sad, shocking moment for everyone.
Moving forward they where looking for new members to join the team, and auditions where underway! I just remember sitting in my room thinking, this could be what I was missing….Moving to England, new band, new project, new people. A new path for 2021. I rang up Chris and said ‘man, we should try for this…'
After submitting some interpretive vocal and guitar recordings, learning the TIL songs day in day out, and practicing in Ireland alongside Chris every week, it was time to fly to England to meet the possible future bandmates and audition. Oh the stress… but the excitement. BUT, big but! I swear to the heaven's above. On the day we touched down on the tarmac, just hours before the audition I became very ill…. Chris walked in to see me dying (not being dramatic I swear)! Boiling like hell had opened up in the next room, sounding like I had taken my vocal cords and massaged them with a cheese grater. I WAS ILL. On the worst day possible in my eyes. Eventually after much ibuprofen, I struggled to do some sort of audition sounding like half my head was missing! To my happiness the members of TIL found me and Chris suited the band quite well. And an offer of a position on the team was made to both of us. And after a trip to A and E, a diagnoses of severe tonsillitis, a week of recovery barricaded in the house, I could finally celebrate the new adventure that was about to hit us in the face with a bang!
After a year of constant up's and down's, our path has been chosen and Tomorrow is Lost can finally continue to move forward, regardless of what 2021 wants to throw at us!!
I need to lastly mention and thank YOU GUYS for the unimaginable support and love we have received, from everyone who loves the band. Chris and I both would like everyone connected to and who has supported Elevation Falls over the years, without you guys NONE of what we do would be possible. See you all on the road.
Even in our darkest times we can come together! The best is yet to come…….
